Helicopter Pilots revived the ancient 1200 year old Haagdyve
cleansing ceremony in the Britains most Northern Christmas
Swim today. By swimming in both the North Sea and Atlantic
Ocean we are now clean enough to sleep with local Shetland
women. The swim took place at Mavis Grind where the Ocean
and Sea are separated by a 50ft dash over a fence and across
a road; a route most commonly used by otters. (Note the
Mavis Grind sign has been defaced by Shetland Viking
Nationalists by removing the Scottish Thistle (possibly
because they now realise they are Welsh!)).
The Haagdyve took place today on 26/12/06 at 1300hrs at
Mavis Grind, Brae, Shetland and there were 16 swimmers. The
next Haagdyve will take place on New Years day 2007/08 (the
tradition is to alternate between pagan and Christian
customs). |
